MARINA DEL REY -- Ken Kasdan, Senior & Managing Partner, and Barry Vaughan, Partner, of the Kasdan Simonds Weber & Vaughan law firm, are scheduled speakers at the Construction Litigation Leaders’ Forum sponsored by HB Litigation Conferences in Marina del Rey.
The forum is being held Thursday and Friday, March 8-9, and will include many of the nation’s top litigators, mediators, experts, and judiciary who are framing construction defect litigation. Seminar topics include; a judicial round-table discussion; right to repair statutes; the impact of the economy on today's litigation and claims; mediation issues; staff counsel in CD cases; case E-discovery; and insolvent subcontractors or carriers.
Mr. Kasdan will be speaking Thursday, March 8, from 8:45 a.m.-9:45 a.m. on "SB800 and Right to Repair Statutes: Here, There and Everywhere". Ken’s panel will discuss how right to repair statutes are being used in the field by plaintiff and builders, today vs. in years past. He will discuss what constitutes compliances under the various statutes, including identifying defects with enough specificity. Other issues to be discussed include: cash settlements vs. actual repairs; are right to repair statutes working as intended; what is the expert’s role in early damage assessment; using 3rd party customer relations groups for settlements.
Mr. Vaughan’s panel will also be held Thursday, from 3:45 p.m.-4:15 p.m. and will discuss “Cutting Edge Solutions for Construction E-Discovery“. Topics to be included are: unique E-discovery uses for construction litigators; what to request and how to request it; when do you really need to object to something; keeping an eye on the bottom line- being economical for your client, your office and for the court; what you should really maintain in your files vs. a hosted environment.
